ChessMaster GrandMaster and Windows 7
- date: June 18, 2011
Anyone having problems running ChessMaster GrandMaster on Windows 7 platform? The program appears to install (but the desktop icon appears as a regular file folder instead of the ChessMaster icon) and then at each attempt to run the program begins to open then closes returning the computer to other functions. Same thing happens when attempting to run from the Steam Library list. Any suggestions.
XBMC Officially Released Xbox, Mac, Windows, Linux, aTV and LiveCD

UPDATE: Well I've been asked to update the OP to make it a little more relevant to anyone coming on over.
Since last year there's been some serious improvements made to XBMC (which stands for XBMC Media Center). First there's been serious improvements to the skinning engine, many upgrades too numerous to list here but some that come to mind:
- Movie/TV Show Fan Art
- Music Fan Art
- Improved Plugins/Scripting
- Better scrapping support
- so many bug fixes
One thing thats really changed since last year is the growth of the community. We now have sites to download nightly builds (for every platform), Windows programs to auto-update the XBMC files, media managers to manage media using windows instead of the XBMC interface. You now have sites like themoviedb.org replacing imdb.com as the place to get movie/actor information and other sites have started to pop-up. There's also people working on developing remote control software for every known smartphone currently available (so

I've already tried uninstalling PhysX and using an older version (9.09.0203), setting display options to application controlled and changing the compatibility mode.
Here are my specs, please help!

What is it like to use Windows 8?
No, in the video/games/music* apps, you always see store adverts first and foremost (*- CORRECTION: You can set the music app to default to your Library).
I'll walk you through the Games ("Xbox" Games) and Music metro apps. Apologies for some of the crappy screenshots, the re-sizing function in the screenshot manager I'm using sucks (and Metro's thin fonts don't lend themselves that well to being re-sized), but you can still get the gist.
First screen you see is the Spotlight. This is of course from the store, and is a mix of 360 and Windows - eh, Xbox Games for Microsoft Windows titles. You can see by the tiny XBox icon on some tiles that the game is for 360 only (that wasn't there pre-RTM I believe, so this is an improvement).

HOW TO : run it on Windows Vista / 7 [ 32 64bits ]
- date: December 28, 2009
This has been tested successfully on the following plaforms :
- Windows Vista Pro 64bits
- Windows 7 Home edition 64bits
- Windows 7 Entreprise 64bits
- Windows 7 Pro 64bits
There are so many guys trying this & that to get it running ...
Forget about compatibility mode, DEP tuning and so ...
All you have to do to get this -- great -- game to run, is to lower your maximum memory limit to 2GB (many people claim it will work with a memory limit set to 3GB, but so far, every attempt would fail with a 217 error code).
Set it to 2048MB / 2GB, restart, launch Steam, launch AOW : HT and voilą
P.S : as 2GB is no much memory nowadays, you might want to turn off -- momentarily -- secondary process to free up some RAM for the game
Windows: It's Over (Mac supremacy thread)

New article confirms what we knew all along: windows is dead.
Most people in our recent debate over the future of Windows 8 thought that the operating system could be saved. I'm sure many people in 1491 thought that the Earth was flat, too.
Fewer people than with any previous edition of Windows want Windows 8. Vista actually looks successful when you compare it to Windows 8! As for tablets and smartphones, I think my ComputerWorld colleague Preston Gralla summed it up nicely in his analysis of ABI Research's report on 2013's tablet market: "Windows tablets don't even rate a blip in the $64 billion tablet market."
So, what do the numbers show? Not what do you want them to show, and not what would your faith in Microsoft would have you believe, but what do they actually add up to? The sum is that Microsoft is failing to hold on to the desktop market and that it has no impact whatsoever on smartphones and tablets.
