Windows 7 (And Vista) Fix for Chime PC
- date: February 17, 2011
Hi all guys, finally studying the Microsoft windows, I've found a "Fix" for Chime!
First of all, open the Start menu, type %temp% and press enter, so go to the upper directory, right click "Temp", go properties and click "Security" Tab, so click in System, and click "Edit", mark the "Total Control" box, press Ok, if show any error, press "Continue" and wait, after complete, start Chime and Play.
Still not working?
Go to "C:\Users", Right Click the folder with your user name, go properties and click "Security" Tab, and click in System, click Edit, mark the "Total control" box, press ok, if show any error, press "Continue" and wait, after complete Start Chime and Play.
Why does this happen?
Windows 7 and Vista sometimes get confused with Windows Installer which denies some installations (Like XNA, necessary for Chime, that's why the won't start)
Thanks Zoë Mode for maki
Windows 7 or Vista fix for Slow Menus, Bad FPS
- date: September 19, 2009
OH YEAH!! This game is AMAZING!! But sadly... it lags worse than trying to play Fallout 3 with fully loaded graphical content. I spent a great deal of time researching the issue and found out the largest issue was with DirectX. It turns out Windows Vista and 7 emulate the older versions of DirectX. Further more it lags when playing SEV with 32 bit graphics enabled. I found out that setting the game to 16 bit graphics rather than 32 bit GREATLY increases the FPS. Ultimate Max Payne(1) Vista/Win7 Sound Fix
- date: April 24, 2009
I'm the author of the -Max Payne(1) Vista Sound Fix-, posted in the 3drealms forums years ago when vista was released and the Max Payne(1) sound issue first surfaced. The main issue is that if you install Max Payne (1) on Vista or Windows7/8 you will probably notice that most music, intro sound, cut-scene talks and many of the original in game sounds are missing. The fix attempted to fix that, by converting the original sounds to a format that does play right in Vista/Windows7, but the original fix had some flaws.
So, I picked up development of the fix again after a long period of silence, with the goal to make it work for everyone, including Steam and Windows7/8 users and others.
Main download: (updated 04-Apr-2012, Release 1.12)
Max Payne Soundpatch v1.12
After you installed the game and downloaded the fix, basically all you have to do is: Extract

Fix for Fable TLC on Win Vista, 7 & 8!!!!
- date: February 18, 2013
I had issues running this game on Windows 8 and had tried many fixes/compatability settings. The real issue is with DEP (Data Execution Prevention) causing it to crash usually when just starting the game.
To fix this issue, go into Computer, System Properties, Advanced System Settings, click on tab Advanced and then choose Settings (may be within the "performance" sub section depending on OS). The third tab in the window will be Data Execution Prevention and select: "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select". Click add and browse for Fable.exe or its shortcut. Once its added, click Aply and Ok. Now you should be able to run Fable with no problems.
Remember the fable.exe file you need to add will be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable The Lost Chapters or without the (x86) if you're using a 32bit OS. If you have left a compatibility mode on such as XP sp2 or similar, you will still get a windowed mode game. Right click
Railroad Tycoon 3 Windows 7/Vista EASY FIX
- date: September 9, 2012
I found an easy fix to get RRT3 to work on Windows 7 (and apparently Vista).
Go to http://hawkdawg.com/rrt/rrt3/Xtras/ and in the middle of the page is a link to a "Vista Fix" that you can download.
The fix is simply a new engine.cfg file that replaces the one in your steamapps/common/Railroad Tycoon 3/Data/Configuration folder. All this config file does is checks off "Disable Hardware T&L" in the options which lets you run the game. If this is unchecked your game will crash after just a couple of seconds. Any modern computer will have no issue running the game with this disabled.
If you run any of the other patches or expansions that are described on that site or other posts in this forum it seems to start asking for a CD.
Fix for Vista 64 and more than 2GB's'o'Ram
- date: March 18, 2009
Okay people... while searching for fixes i found a post by some german dude... Fact is the games graphic's mess up if youv got more than 2 gb's of ram so heres the solution :
(Trnaslating it from german please excuse the mistakes)
1. In the Startmenu go to " Run " then run the programm " MSCONFIG ".
2. In the new popup go to the second flap called " Start " and then press "Advanced Options".
3. Tick the box on the right side of the new pop that says something like "Maximum Memory" and set it to a max of 2000 or lower.
4. Save and restart.
5. Now you will notice that when your running HoAE you cant see the Cinematics so now go to options and set it to 16. bit colours.
6. Restart HoAE and it should work.
Atleast it did for me. If you want to use your full ram again all you gotta do is go back to " msconfig" and untick the "max memory" box.
Hope this helped you as much as it helped me!
Total realMYST crash fix for Vista
- date: February 27, 2011
I've spent the last few days having almost every problem possible trying to run this game (as evidenced by my multiple posts.) And now that I've tried every different fix/patch/solution/workaround I could get my hands on, here's what I found:
I first tried it on Windows 7 64bit and had no luck (I didn't get to try that long because I had to send that computer out for maintenance)
I had some success running it in Vista with the main fix suggested here:

Crash Fix for Vista/Windows 7
- date: December 29, 2009
There seems to be an issue where after playing the game for some time, it just locks up and then crashes. After some thorough research, it appears to be an issue where the game does not have the required setup to be allocated certain portions of your ram. In order to fix this, we must set it up so that it can get to this ram.
There are two fixes I know of, both involving modified .exe's, one worked for me while the other didn't.
Disclaimer: Modified .exe's are being used with Steam, which may be a hazard to your account. However, I asked around on the forum and many people have done it and said it's fine. In addition, I am using a modified .exe myself, so I sincerely believe it will be fine.
Fix #1: This .exe has the fix already applied to it
Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?oqvgqywwemdReplace your railroads.exe in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's railroads" with the downloaded .exe
Fix #2 (Courtesy of Zorander and Warll): Manually apply the fix
